Accessibility statement

This site is built to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA. If any part of it gets in your way, call or text 225-438-9235 and we will give you the same information another way — read to you over the phone, sent as plain text, or printed large — and then fix the page.

What we have done

  • Keyboard. Every link, button, form field and expandable answer works without a mouse, in a sensible order, with a visible focus outline. A “skip to content” link is the first thing you reach on every page.
  • Screen readers. Real headings in order, one h1 per page, labeled landmarks and forms, and text alternatives for images that carry meaning. Decorative graphics are hidden from screen readers rather than announced.
  • Contrast. Text and interface colors are checked against the 4.5:1 minimum for body text and 3:1 for large text and controls, in both the light and dark versions of the site.
  • Zoom and reflow. Pages are readable at 200% zoom and on a phone without side-to-side scrolling.
  • Motion. The background video on the home page pauses automatically if your device is set to reduce motion, or if you are on a slow or data-saving connection, and there is a visible pause button either way.
  • Plain language. Answers are written to be understood on one read. Legal citations are given so you can check the source rather than take our word for it.
  • Testing. Pages are checked with automated WCAG 2.1 A and AA tooling and reviewed by keyboard.

Where we know we fall short

Automated testing catches a minority of accessibility problems. These are the ones we know about:

  • Maps and embedded tools. Area maps are images with text alternatives, but a map is not a substitute for the numbers. Every figure shown on a map is also written out on the page.
  • Documents from other sources. Parish assessor pages, FEMA maps, and state disclosure forms are linked, not hosted by us, and we do not control their accessibility. If one blocks you, call us and we will get you the information.
  • Listing photos. Photo alt text describes the room, not every detail in it. Ask and we will describe any listing over the phone.

We treat an accessibility report as a defect report, not a complaint.

Accessibility in a home search

If you need a home with specific accessibility features, or you need a modification made to a home you are buying or renting, that is a fair housing matter as well as a service matter. Federal and Louisiana law require housing providers to permit reasonable modifications and to make reasonable accommodations, and assistance animals are not pets under that law. See our fair housing page, and tell us what you need so we search for it from the start rather than discovering it at the inspection.

Tell us about a problem

Call or text 225-438-9235.
It helps if you can tell us the page address, what you were trying to do, and what device, browser or assistive technology you were using — but say as much or as little as you like. We will answer you, give you the information another way, and fix the page.

Common questions

What standard does this site aim for?

Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium. It is the standard most commonly referenced in U.S. accessibility settlements and federal rulemaking, and it covers contrast, keyboard operation, screen reader support, zoom, and motion.

Can you send me a listing in a format I can read?

Yes. We will send listing details as plain text or a large-print document, or read them to you over the phone, including room sizes, the numbers, taxes, HOA dues and disclosures. Call or text 225-438-9235 and say which format works for you.

Do you use an accessibility overlay or widget?

No. Overlay toolbars that promise instant compliance have repeatedly been found not to fix the underlying problems, and disability advocacy organizations broadly recommend against them. We build accessibility into the pages themselves instead.

How do I turn off the moving background?

There is a pause button on the home page hero. The video also pauses on its own if your operating system is set to reduce motion, or if your connection is slow or in data-saver mode. Nothing on the site flashes or auto-scrolls.

Who fixes it if I report a problem?

We do, directly. This site is not on a template platform where the fix has to go through a vendor queue, so a reported problem is usually corrected within days. You will get an answer to your question immediately and do not have to wait for the fix.
